CAPC Announces Art$tart Grant Awardees for 2010

BUFFALO, NY – Six partnerships composed of teaching artists or cultural organizations and schools have been awarded grant monies to support projects that focus on the creation and implementation of arts integrated units of study.
This program is part of the Local Capacity Building (LCB) Initiative at the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and is funded by NYSCA. The LCB is a statewide effort to promote widespread participation in arts in education. CAPC was invited by NYSCA to participate in this effort and to administer this program.
The funded partnerships and their projects for Spring 2010 are:

*Candlelight Productions and Holmes Elementary School in the Kenton school district   for  “VIART.”
*CEPA Gallery and Build Academy, Buffalo Public Schools for “Mapping Community Project.”
*Marquis Burton, poet and Lake Shore Senior High School for “Celebration of Self Through Poetry.”
*Ashford Hollow Foundation and Tapestry High School for “Weaving Hopes and Dreams.”
*Janice Burns and Nativity Miguel Middle School for “Reading and Visual Art.”
*Salsa for the Soul with Sarah Hooper and Emerson School of Hospitality for “Character Development through Salsa.”

All funded partnerships will share elements of their projects in a culminating celebration workshop to be held in June at CEPA Gallery.  This event will allow partnerships to develop further their development by exchanging experiences with other arts in education projects.

Do you have the germ of an idea for a project?

Are you looking to bring something new to your classroom, but just don’t know what yet?

Do you need bucks to get started?

Take this quick survey…

Is this a new project/partnership? Or do you want to change an existing project because of what you’ve learned?

Do the arts and academics support each other?

Can this be replicated in other classrooms?
Will sessions happen during school day?

If you answered yes to all of the above, then proceed! If you answered no, sorry, you are not eligible. Please call for technical assistance.

A project is INELIGIBLE if a NYSCA/ESP funded school project currently is in place or under consideration.
