HISTORY
CAPC was formed in 1997 by arts organizations with a shared history of providing in depth arts education opportunities to children in Buffalo. By working together to focus the energies and skills of many arts organizations on one urban public school, it believed it could have a significant impact on teaching and learning.
Funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, CAPC became a model program for the state. With arts organizations working in an inner city school, CAPC created an artistic synergy that energized the whole school community. During the third year it adopted an additional school, and secured additional funding. The schools received critical programmatic and fiscal support from the CAPC team.
The Coalition grew and the needs of the community changed. While organizations continue to serve the two schools, CAPC redirected its energy. CAPC provides advocacy for children’s arts programs, professional development, and carefully designed workshops by utilizing the high level of existing expertise in the community as well as bringing in national leaders in the field.
FUNDERS
Support for CAPC is provided in part by grants from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the John R. Oishei Foundation. |
